100 placements for 100 adults with learning disabilities over the next 3 years.
Launched in 2016, this is a 20 week course on how to prepare for the workplace. Run by Burton Street staff, each courses is tailored to the person. They are designed to develop confidence and self-awareness, and how to prepare for work.
We want to break down the barriers to employment for adults with learning disabilities and for employers to see the fantastic skills people have and what assets they will be.
We work alongside Building Better Opportunties
Building Better Opportunities - Sheffield City Region (BBO SCR) is an integrated, person-centred employment service for people with physical and mental health conditions, learning disabilities and complex needs. It’s based on Individual Placement Support, a “place then train” approach that’s shown to be twice as effective as traditional approaches. The BBO SCR Partnership will support 642 adults over the next 2 years to find competitive employment and training opportunities.
BBO SCR has received £2.7million of funding from the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England
About Burton Street Disability Services
The Burton Street Foundation provides day services in Sheffield for adults and children with learning disabilities. We have a fully equipped and accessible site in Hillsborough, Sheffield.
Our ethos is to embrace the things people can do, rather than focusing on what they can’t. All sessions are designed to help develop self-esteem, self-confidence and self-awareness. We explore new sensory activities, encourage discussion and expression of feelings and thoughts, and enable people to reach their own personal goals.
Our staff are among the most experienced, innovative and professional support workers in the industry. Every member of our team receives regular, high quality training, and we have a culture of constant progression and professional development. We work hard to ensure everyone at Burton Street is motivated and able to provide the highest quality disability services.
Our organisation is run on a not-for-profit basis, and we have been established this way for 20 years. Around 200 clients from across Sheffield attend Burton Street on a weekly basis.
