Recreational and Educational Activities for people with profound and multiple learning and physical disabilities

We provide highly developed sessions in creative activities for adults with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities).

Our sessions provide a meaningful, relevant activity on a personal level. React at Burton Street isnt just ‘somewhere to go’ or ‘something to do’. For this reason we don’t use the term ‘day centre’.
Underpinning them all are three basic principles : Improving Communication, encouraging self expression and promoting self confidence

Our staff are well motivated and trained to work with our clients by using their skills and experience in creative activities to provide an inclusive, safe environment in which the client can explore and grow as an individual.

We work in a fully person centred way – all the sessions have been developed around the needs and preferences of our clients, and they continue to evolve.  We have been established for 15 years and work with around 50 adults every week

The rooms we use to deliver these sessions have all been designed around the needs of our clients – we have a studio, music room, sensory room, art room and activities room. The equipment in them, colours and lighting have all been influenced by the people who use them.

Some of the activities we run are in art, music, movement, play, baking, I.T, sensory and sport.
Clients are encouraged to participate at their level and given the time they need to contribute to the activity.
We believe everything our clients do has value, and is a form of communication  that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to express.

We also work with adults who challenge us, and can provide 1:1 support . We have been very successful in supporting some adults through difficult times and finding the best way to work with them by showing patience and empathy, allied to our experience and knowledge of the benefits of creative activities.
